Based on room real estate and gaming experience, we believe a 55 inch is the best size to play games on your TV. A 55inch TV is not the biggest TV and it’s certainly not the smallest, therefore if you’re in a smaller room or live in an apartment, a 55inch would be more ideal.

What makes a TV good for Gaming

When looking for a gaming TV most people look for TVs with a great contrast ratio, but more importantly a low input lag and refresh rate.

Low Latency – Latency is the time it takes for images to change in your TV based on the buttons that are pressed and scenery changes. Most TV’s come in at about 60 ms, but

Refresh Rate– This is the measure of times per second a TV redraws an image on the screen. So basically the quicker the picture appears on the screen, the better the TV can smooth out fast motion. The refresh rate is good for fast motion films, sports, and gaming.

Does TV size affect Gaming?

Now the obvious answer is yes because, with a bigger screen, you get to see your game a lot clearer and more detailed, but coming from a technical perspective, the answer is Yes and no. Many games love to play their games on big screens, but this may pose a problem as far as screen real estate is concerned.

When playing games such as modern warfare, on bigger screens gamer tends to focus more on one area ten the entire screen. This can actually hurt your gaming experience, as it will be tougher to see the entire screen at once.

Also, many standard TV’s have a slower input lag and refresh rate. If you are considering a larger TV for gaming, be sure to get one that works well with games.

TV size vs Viewing Angle

Different TV sizes will require different viewing angles for the best TV experience. This also depends on what brand of TV you choose. Some TV’s can be viewed at many different angles and not lose clarity. Here is a great picture from RTING.Com showing different TV viewing angles.

TV Size vs viewing distance

TV viewing distance is very important and could destroy your gaming experience if you tend to play too far. In fact, it’s difficult to tell the difference between 4K and 1080P at a distance greater than 6 feet. Here’s another picture from RTING to give you a better understanding.

Monitors VS TVs

Advantages of using a Monitor for gaming

Most pro-gamers prefer to use gaming monitors over TV’s simply because of the extremely low input lag, high refresh rate, and low prices. The low budget alone is worth it over TVs.

Many TV’s nowadays come equipped with just about everything, but this usually comes at a high price tag. Typically the best size for gaming monitors are ranged between 24-32 inches

The advantage of using a TV for gaming

One of the main advantages of using a TV over a monitor is the obvious size difference. A bigger TV gives you that more immersive viewing experience. Also, with the change in TV structure, many TV now caters to gaming requirements. The LG OLED is a great example with most of its line delivering a breath-taking HDR picture, 120-hertz refresh rate making game motions a lot smoother and faster, and it supports Freesync which reduces screen tearing.

With these amazing specs, this particular TV can stand with the best monitors. The only downside for such a TV is the pricing. A 55inch version of this TV will set you back at least $1600. Now compare the specs to a good monitor such as the Samsung 27-Inch CJG56 which is only $375, you will see why monitors are so popular among gamers.

Below are the best TVs for gaming:

  • LG CX OLED– Extremely low input lag, 120 Herts Refresh rate G-Sync Compatible. Best overall
  • Samsung Qled (Q70-Q90)– Another great gaming TV. With great Contrast ratio, local dimming, HDR-ready, and very low input lag. Very Good gaming TV
  • Vizio P Series Quantum– Great gaming TV for the price
  • TCL 50″ 5-Series 4K UHD QLED– Best Budget Gaming TV

What is the best TV Size for PC Gaming

If you prefer to play games on your PC rather than a gaming console, then we put a list together of the best TV size for PC Gaming. Most people who strictly stick to PC gaming usually sit about 3 feet away from their TV, so that has to be taken into factor. The best TV size for a PC gamer is between 32- 43 inches. Anything larger would properly give you a headache.

Best TV’s for PC Gaming between 32-43 inches below:

  • 32inch Vizio D32 – Budget friendly
  • 43 inch Samsung Q60– The entire Samsung QLED model is a great for gaming.
  • Asus ROG Strix XG438Q 43” Large Gaming Monitor– Although this is a monitor and not a TV, it’s still is worth mentioning. This massive size monitor is a great size for gamers who prefer larger screens.

What is the best size TV for gaming consoles

There is no set size TV for a gaming console, it’s really based on personal preference and what kind of game you choose to play. If you’re a professional gamer, then you may want to seat a little closer to the TV, so you don’t miss anything. If you are not a professional gamer, then sitting a little further away will not hurt, therefore going for a larger TV could make better sense. This again comes down to personal preference.

As stated before, we believe a 55 inch would serve you just right especially for a gaming console. At that specific size, the TV is not too big and not too small. Just remember to grab a TV with low input lag, a higher refresh rate, and an HDR 10 or greater. Below are the best TV’s to choose from by gaming console.

Conclusion

TV’s come in all different sizes and specifications, so we understand how aggravating it can be trying to find the best TV that fits the situation. As stated a few times above, we believe the best size for a TV for gaming is a 55 inch. The TV is not too large or small, but somewhere in the middle. This is perfect for large and small rooms, but no matter the size we recommend, your choice still based on personal preference. Just make sure you get a good TV that fits the qualification for gaming.
