Longstanding VR systems have needed wires and computers to run their headsets, but in recent years you don’t need a PC to run a VR headset. Even though this VR doesn’t need a computer to run, it’s still an inferior product to it’s big brother, the Oculus Quest. The graphics are less detailed and the processors is slower. If you are playing VR games with a large environment, this headset may struggle but at only- $350 and with a l000 games available, this may be the best option for you.
The next wireless VR headset that doesn’t need a PC is the Infamous Oculus Quest. Currently this is the most popular VR Headset on the market right now, outselling the most expenive VR headsets. What makes this different than the rest? Well because it’s the first really powerful stand alone VR system that does not need a PC to power it. Instead of only a 3 degree motion detection, the headset comes with positional tracking that captures your entire body movement. This makes for a fully immersive experience.
As stated before, the Oculus Quest has a more powerful processor and higher dynamic graphics than its little brother the Oculus Go. This alone makes it easy to stand toe to toe with higher end VR systems. Where the Quest lacks is the number of games it currently offers its customers. Oculus does not have a vast library of games yet, but game quanity has grown significantly in the last year, making it likely to see many more games being created by 2022.
The most fascinating thing about the Quest is you’re getting all of this on a standalone headset without needing the assistance of a powerful computer. This headset has created in- and was the first VR standalone headset that came with a Six degrees of movement that would do away with needing room trackers. The headset enabled you to move naturally in a virtual world for the first time. This headset was particularly built for comfort. With it’s lightweight frame and comfortable headgear, the Lenovo Mirage was made so that you forget your wearing a headset. The engine running this headset is pretty awesome too. The last VR headset on the list is the focus Vive. This particular headset was originally available in China until early 2020 when the U.S. finally got it’s hands on it. The HTC VIVE focus comes with Six degree high resolution Snapdragon 835 processing.
