1. A defective battery2. Water damage3. Battery refuses to charge

Typically, there are 3 reasons why an electric Scooter wont Charge. The first most likely reason is a defective battery, second there is some form of water damage, and lastly you have a healthy battery, but it just wont charge. In this article we will go into detail for every possible reason and get you back on the road.

Transportation has been one of the defining factors of any growing society. Since the old age, man has always looked for innovative modes of transportation. Today, there are numerous transportation methods.

However, not all these transportation modes are equal. For instance, you’ll likely not find any steam or coal-powered means of transportation as these have been long outdated. With the rise and dominance of technology, the transportation sector has been completely overhauled.

Today, electric-powered modes of transportation are becoming even more popular, and electric scooters lead the charge. In major cities such as San Francisco, Paris, Madrid, and many others, electric scooters are the most preferred mode of transportation.

The electric scooter has risen to be one of the most preferred forms of transportation. Some of the factors contributing to this growth and dominance of the electric scooter include:

  • Eco-friendly
  • Easily portable
  • Contain little to no noise pollution
  • It’s a great way to keep your body active
  • Electric scooters are safe, especially in comparison to other transportation modes
  • Cost-effective
  • Low maintenance

These are just some of the advantages of using an electric scooter. If you have one, you’ve definitely experienced these benefits. But, are there any problems heavily associated with the electric scooter?

The truth is, the electric scooter is a revolutionary innovation that seeks to eliminate the common hassles of transportation. However, as with most electrical appliances, the charging system may appear faulty now and then.

While rare, you may experience charging systems on your electric scooter, leading you to ask, “Why my electric scooter won’t charge.” What do you do in such an instance? Moreover, is this something you can fix yourself, or do you have to call a professional?

The good news is most of the problems associated with your electric scooter’s charging problems can be fixed right at home. The only thing you need is to understand where the problem lies. Thus, herein are the most common charging issues, as well as how you can fix them.

1. A defective battery

As expected, one of the most prevalent issues while using an electric scooter is the battery itself. When you have a defective battery, you should endeavor to fix it as soon as you can. This is because a faulty battery will lose power much faster, leading to inconveniences.

Additionally, a damaged battery is dangerous as it could stop working or even explode at any moment. However, with proper maintenance and care of your electric scooter, you shouldn’t have to worry about the battery spoiling. To keep your scooter battery form spoiling, you should;

• Ensure you’ve charged it fully every time.

This is a common mistake made by most scooter owners. The battery could easily spoil if you keep charging it and unplugging it before it’s full.

• Charge the scooter regularly

When you get a scooter, you’ll never want to let it go. However, there are times you may leave it behind for some time – either you’re traveling, maybe the weather isn’t conducive. If you are leaving the scooter for a long while, you should remove the battery until you’re back to regularly using it.

• Keep the battery away from water when riding your electric scooter, try and keep away from water bodies. When water comes into contact with the battery, it could debilitate the battery’s state.

If the battery comes into contact with water, ensure you dry both the scooter and battery compartment thoroughly before storing it

2. Water damage

As mentioned above, water is one of the electric scooter’s biggest limiting factors. While using the electric scooter in heavy rain is not advised, you can comfortably use it when there’s a light shower or water you can navigate around.

When the scooter comes into contact with a lot of water, some of the scooter’s key features may start to dysfunction. However, this is a problem not unique to the scooter as most electric devices face damage when they come into contact with water.

When your electric scooter comes into contact with water, you should;

• Turn it off immediately

If the scooter comes into contact with water or is rained on, you should switch it off as soon as possible. Make sure you find a place to shelter yourself and the scooter from the rain, so it does not sustain further damage.

• Remove the battery

The battery is one of the most integral parts of an electric scooter. When the battery comes into contact with water, it could easily get damaged, and you may be forced to replace it.

If the battery is logged with water, you’ll likely have to replace it. To salvage your battery when it comes to contact with water, remove it from the appliance and dry it thoroughly. Additionally, let the battery rest before you can return it to the scooter.

• Rightly clean the battery

Cleaning the battery is not just a matter of rubbing with a dry cloth. You need to ensure it is dry to keep it from sustaining further damage. The most efficient way to clean the battery is by sung a dry cloth and alcohol – which helps with evaporation.

For the best results, you should clean the battery as soon as possible when it comes into contact with water.

3. Battery refuses to charge

In some cases, the scooter may refuse to charge even when the battery is okay. This means you cannot use the scooter at all, as it won’t even turn on.

The battery may refuse to charge for several reasons, some of them already mentioned above. However, the biggest reason is wear and tear. After continued use, the charging system may get faulty. Nonetheless, there are a few ways to maintain the battery properly. These include:

  • Ensuring you don’t ride the scooter on rocky or uneven surfaces.
  • Do not perform any extreme stunts as it could damage the charging system.
  • Make sure you’re using the right electric scooter charger, and you charge it correctly.
  • Not overcharging the battery.

The electric scooter is one of the best ways to travel today. If your scooter’s battery refuses to work, these above-mentioned steps will help you get it back to peak performance. And if you’ve been thinking of “why my electric scooter won’t charge,” now you can easily and confidently fix it.
