Do You Have A Software Update?

One of the major reasons people have been wondering, “Why is my AirPod volume so low?” is usually due to their iPhone software being out of date. Whether this is because of settings having been changed between the old software and the new software update. Or whether there have been bugs discovered in a previous update, ensuring that you have the most up-to-date software may fix your AirPod volume issues.

Do Your AirPod’s Need Cleaning?

One of the easiest things to check is whether your AirPods simply need cleaning. You can do this by cleaning the speaker meshes and microphone area with a clean and dry cotton swab, applying gentle pressure around the edges to ensure you cover all of the areas. Also, using a soft-bristled brush, similar to an unused toothbrush, on the speaker meshes will ensure that no debris is left behind.

Is Your Phone On Low-Power Mode?

Another easy check you can make is to see whether you have selected a low-power or low-battery setting on your phone. As low-power modes are used to conserve your phone’s battery power by not using non-essential settings and apps, one of the settings that is affected is your phone’s volume level. By deactivating any low-power settings and running your phone as normal, your AirPods volume level will be higher than before.

Turn Off Volume Reduction Settings

With the many health concerns that are related to high-volume levels causing various hearing issues. Most phone manufacturers have implemented settings and warnings that are triggered by high-volume levels that will automatically turn your volume down or send warnings to your phone. To avoid this, simply follow this guide to turn off these settings on your iPhone.

  • Go to your ‘Settings ‘app.
  • Select the ‘Sounds & Haptics’ option.
  • Under the ‘Headphone Audio’ section, select ‘Headphone Safety’.
  • Make sure that ‘Reduce Loud Sounds’ is turned off. Your iPhone will no longer automatically reduce your volume level when you are using your AirPods.

Calibrate Your AirPods To Your Phone

As your phone and AirPods are considered two different devices, they will have a contrasting understanding of what the maximum volume is. In order to align this setting to ensure you are getting the highest volume level possible, you will need to calibrate your AirPods to your phone. In order to do this, follow these steps:

  • Start by playing music through your AirPods as normal.
  • Then, turn the volume down until you cannot hear the music through your AirPods anymore.
  • Disable your phone’s bluetooth setting.
  • Start playing music again, but rather than it coming through your AirPods, the music should play through your phone’s speakers.
  • Now turn the music to its minimum level.
  • Finally, reconnect your AirPods using the bluetooth setting and adjust the volume level to your desired level. Your AirPods and phone are now calibrated.

Do Both AirPods Have Equal Volume Levels?

If you are listening to an audio file, using your AirPods and believe that one of your AirPods is louder than the other, you may have changed your audio settings to enable your phone to suppress the volume in one of your AirPods. In order to rectify this setting, follow these steps on your iPhone.

  • Open your ‘Settings’ app on your iPhone.
  • Select the ‘Accessibility’ option from the menu.
  • Scroll down to the ‘Hearing’ subsection and select the ‘Audio/Visual’ option.
  • Under the ‘Balance’ section, you should see an ‘L’ and ‘R’ with an adjustable bar underneath. Ensure that the moveable circle is in the middle of the bar (there is an indicator as to where the middle of the bar is).
  • Any volume suppression on one AirPod over the other should now be resolved.

Hopefully one, or a number, of these tips will help you fix any volume issues you are having with your AirPods and you are now able to listen to your music or audio files at the volume you desire.
